A build up of moss can damage roof tiles, clog gutters and cause a mess around the outside of your home. To remove it some businesses will offer to climb up on the roof and pressure wash the moss away. Aside from being dangerous and creating a huge muddy mess, if not done correctly this can remove too much of the granular finish from the tiles. Reducing the lifespan of your roof.
Our preferred method is to gently remove the dry moss with compressed air and specially adapted tools from a scaffold tower or cherry picker. We do not go on the roof unless it is absolutely necessary.
We then apply a biocide treatment which works with Mother Nature over several months to remove any remaining organic growth and improve the overall look of your roof. The bulk of the work is in removing the moss so another application of biocide approximately every 3 - 4 years is a very cost effective way of maintaining your home.
This is the method trusted by experienced roofers and we believe it creates a natural look in keeping with the age of most homes, however if you want an instant result closer to what can be achieved by pressure washing or steam cleaning, you may choose to add a stage of sodium hypochlorite treatment to the process. This will give the appearance of a brand new roof!
